Community Consultation: Nominating The Stag as an Asset of Community Value (ACV)
Why are we writing to you?
Maidwell with Draughton Parish Council is exploring whether to nominate The Stag for inclusion on West Northamptonshire Council’s Assets of Community Value Register (ACVR). Given the economic pressures currently facing the hospitality industry, we believe it is sensible to seek to protect this important local hub.
What does an ACV listing mean?
- No immediate change: The pub remains under its current ownership and operates as normal.
- Breathing space: If the owners decide to sell the property in the future, the community is granted a legal, six-month “moratorium period”.
- Time to bid: This period stops an immediate commercial sale, giving residents time to raise finance, draft a business plan, and submit a bid to keep the pub as a community hub.
While the owners have not indicated any intention to sell, securing this listing acts as an insurance policy for our villages’ social well-being. You can read the full legislative details on the West Northamptonshire Council ACV Page.
We need your input
Before progressing, the Parish Council wishes to gauge local support and gather evidence of how the pub furthers our community’s social interests.
