Anglian Water – Works Start 18th March 2024
Message from Anglian Water – Reference 62479897
I’m contacting you today to let you know about some upcoming work we have planned in your area.
Every day we clean and supply a billion litres of healthy drinking water and take away and clean your water after it’s been used. It’s all part of the service we provide using the money you pay us via your bill.
Phosphorous is a chemical widely used in soaps and cleaning products, but it can be harmful to wildlife in our waterways. To tackle this, we’re investing over £3.9 million into installing new equipment and laying new pipeline to strengthen the current water treatment process.
Our work will mean we can take out even more phosphorus from the water we return to the environment, improving the water quality for wildlife and reducing algae growth in your local rivers and streams.
Currently the drains and sewers in your community take used water away to our water recycling centre (WRC) off Maidwell Road in Draughton. We then clean it before returning it safely to the local environment. Due to an increase in flows we need to pump this extra flow to a bigger WRC to ensure you continue to receive reliable and resilient services.
To do this we’ll build a new pumping station and lay a seven-kilometre pipeline from Draughton WRC to Brixworth WRC. Most of our work will be through fields so there will be minimal disruption to you, but you might see us out and about in the area. You can see the route we will take on the map below.
When we reach road crossings, we will use a technique called directional drilling. This will allow us to insert pipes underneath the road without having to dig it up. It causes less disruption, while reducing our carbon footprint.
Work starts on 18 March and if everything runs smoothly, we’ll be finished by September 2024.
