Consultation on Proposed Speed Change – A508 – Wednesday 24th August
- new “linings” to be placed on the road through the village which will visually narrow the road, thereby encouraging drivers to slow down as well as reinforcing that they are in a village. These were approved by the Parish Council at our meeting in March 2021 and this work will be done when the surface dressing through the village is completed.
- a change to the speed limits on the south side of the village to narrow the 30 mph zone and introduce a buffer 40 mph zone.
Highway’s advice is that the 30 mph zone is too long and that a stepped zone would aid compliance with the limits. They will not allow the new 40 mph limit to extend beyond the village to allow the 30 mph zone to remain as it is. Their proposal is based on similar successful changes made to other roads in the county – one example including the A5199 between Spratton and Creaton. The specific detail of the change is contained below and I attach the drawing produced by Highways.
