Stephen Mold and Nicci are cycling from London to the National Arboretum in Staffordshire – a mere 170 miles. This is in support of COPS (Care of Police Survivors), the charity which supports the families of fallen Police officers.

The Daventry and District Memory Café provides help and support for people and their carers who have memory problems in Daventry and District. They run activities, provide information, and are happy to share their own experience with Alzheimers and Dementia. Sessions are £2.50 each, refreshments are available and run every second Tuesday and 4th Thursday from 1-3pm at the Methodist Church in Daventry.
On 27th July, Elation Choir are putting on an evening of music for Demcafe as their chosen charity of the year. The concert is ‘Songs Through the Decades’ and will be a sing-a-long event. On Saturday 28 September 2019 the award winning Northampton Male Voice Choir together with stunning soprano, Emily Haig and the outstanding Virtuosi GUS Brass Band will present its annual concert “The Last Night of the Proms” conducted by its charismatic musical director, Stephen Bell. The exciting programme will include a fantastic range of music from John Williams’s “Star Wars” to “Dam Busters”, a rousing selection of songs from the 90 strong male choir and a “Last Night” sing-a-long with Emily Haigh with favourites such as Jerusalem, Rule Britannia and Land of Hope and Glory.

Fun and affordable activities for children this summer

Action-packed but affordable activities for children will be taking place at Daventry Leisure Centre every Wednesday throughout the school summer holidays.
Organised by Everyone Active in partnership with Daventry District Council, the Wicked Wednesday sessions feature pool inflatables sessions as well as bouncy castles in the main hall, at a cost of £2 per person, per session.
The pool inflatables sessions are aimed at competent swimmers aged 8 and above and take place on Wednesdays 31 July, 14 August and 28 August. There are two sessions on each of the days running from 12.30-1.30pm, and from 2-3pm.
Non-swimmers and children aged 7 and below may join the session but must be supervised by an adult in the pool at a ratio of one adult to two children and are not allowed on the inflatables. Over 8s must be supervised by an adult at poolside.
The bouncy castle sessions are suitable for children aged 5 to 12 and take place on Wednesdays 7 and 21 August, with sessions from 10.30am to midday and from 12.15pm to 1.45pm. Children must be supervised by an adult at all times.

Essential maintenance work from the M1 at junction 19 to the A14 at junction 2 to:
• clear vegetation on the verges and in the ditches
• inspect all drains and replace damaged pipes
• resurface both carriageways
The work is due to start at the end of September 2019 and is scheduled for completion by December 2019. To keep the programme for these works as short as possible and to minimise disruption to local residents, businesses and road users, work will be carried out between 8pm and 6am, six days a week, excluding Friday nights.
Please note that all planned roadworks may be subject to change due to weather
conditions or unforeseen circumstances
To maintain a safe environment for the workforce and customers, the A14 will be closed, in phases, between the M1 at junction 19 and the A14 at junction 2 while work is carried out. When a carriageway is closed, fully signed diversion routes will be put in place.

To lessen overnight disturbances to the communities closest to the work, Highways England politely
ask all heavy vehicles to follow their signed diversion routes.

From Sunday 28th July, Stagecoach will be making the following changes to their Northampton town bus services and their Milton Keynes – Northampton – Leicester service :
Service X7 : Milton Keynes – Town Centre – Market Harborough – Leicester
This service will operate broadly half-hourly between Northampton and Leicester via Market Harborough on Monday to Saturday daytimes, and hourly Sunday daytimes. The section between the Town Centre and Milton Keynes will be covered by an increased frequency on service X6.
Service X6 : Milton Keynes – Town Centre – Parklands
This service will be revised to operate between Milton Keynes and the Town Centre only. The frequency will be increased to every half-hour Monday to Saturday daytime and early evening, and hourly Sunday daytimes (to cover the withdrawal of service X7 over this section). Also, it will operate via the A45 in lieu of Hardingstone (which will be served hourly by service 7). The section between the Town Centre and Parklands will be replaced by service 6.
Service 3 : Town Centre – Camp Hill / Mereway Tesco
This service will be rerouted in East Hunsbury to serve Rowtree Road, Hilldrop Road and Clannel Road every half-hour. This will be in lieu of service 88 (Northampton – Silverstone) which operates hourly and will be rerouted via Towcester Road.
Service 5 : Southfields – Town Centre – Duston
All journeys will be rerouted via Riverside Retail Park.
Service 6 : Town Centre – Parklands
This new bus service will replace the section of service X6 between the Town Centre and Parklands, and will operate hourly Monday to Saturday daytimes.
Service 7 : Grange Park – Town Centre – Moulton Park
Between Wootton and the Town Centre this service will operate hourly via either Wootton Waitrose or Hardingstone (the latter in lieu of service X6).
Service 14 : Town Centre – Acre Lane / Moulton Park
This new bus service will replace the section of service 15 between the Town Centre and Acre Lane / Brackmills, at the same frequency as now.
Service 15 / 15A : St Crispin – Town Centre – Acre Lane / Moulton Park
This service will be revised to operate between St Crispin and the Town Centre only, with the section between the Town Centre and Acre Lane / Moulton Park replaced by service 14. The frequency will be as now.
Service 16 : Town Centre – Ecton Brook
This service will be rerouted in the Eastern District with journeys in both directions operating via Little Billing Way and Manorfield Road (in lieu of the current timetable where outbound journeys operate via Fishponds Road and inbound journeys operate via Manorfield Road and Billing Way). The frequency will be as now.
Stagecoach will upload the timetables onto their website at https://www.stagecoachbus.com/ in due course, with a link from the Council’s website.

People with an interest in the history and heritage of West Haddon and Great Brington are invited to get involved in conservation area reviews for the villages.
Conservation areas have tighter planning controls for anyone seeking permission to alter or demolish a building, or carry out work to trees, in order to maintain the special interest of the area.
Great Brington’s conservation area was first designated in 1998, so the review will look at whether it is still fit-for-purpose and whether changes need to be made to further protect its historic features.
West Haddon does not currently have a conservation area and its review will determine whether one is required.
As part of the reviews, Daventry District Council (DDC) is giving people an opportunity to share their views at public exhibitions in both villages at the following locations and times:
- West Haddon Village Hall on Tuesday 18 June from 3.30pm to 7pm
- Great Brington Reading Room on Tuesday 2 July from 3.30pm to 6.30pm
The events are a chance to explore and share the history of the villages and discuss how their special features can be protected in future.
They are open to all members of the public and the Council encourages anyone with any questions relating to the projects to go along. Any comments made will help shape DDC’s proposals for the conservation areas.

Work starts on Mulberry Place development, Daventry

Residents and businesses will start to see major changes in Daventry town centre as work gets under way this week on the Mulberry Place cinema development.
Construction firm Willmott Dixon has begun the project for Daventry District Council (DDC) to transform the former library site off North Street, Daventry, into a new four-screen cinema, with restaurants, public square and splash fountains.
Work starts this week on demolishing the former library buildings to prepare the site, with archaeological digs due to start later this summer and work on the cinema foundations beginning in autumn.
It follows on from last month’s relocation of Daventry Library to modern new premises in the nearby Abbey Centre, off St John’s Square. The former North Street building, which dates back to the 1930s, had become outdated, impractical and costly to run for the library.
People living and working near the site can find out more about the development and speak to contractors at a drop-in session on Wednesday, 19 June from 11am to 7pm at 69 High Street (the former Edison Electrical shop).
Meanwhile the Council is on course to agree a lease to its preferred cinema operator for the Mulberry Place development within the next couple of months. Due to sensitivities surrounding the commercial discussions, the name of the operator cannot be announced at this present time but will be in due course.
The Mulberry Place cinema development is subject to a realistic yet challenging timescale for the Council to complete the new cinema and restaurants by early 2021.
DDC’s Economic, Regeneration and Employment Portfolio Holder, Councillor David James, said: “With work starting this week, people will soon see the first physical signs of changes to the town centre as the site is cleared and the Mulberry Place cinema development gradually takes shape.
“Our contractors Willmott Dixon are committed to keeping disruption to a minimum whilst construction work is taking place and will be keeping people living and working near the site regularly updated on the progress being made. I would encourage them to also find out more about the various stages of work taking place by popping along to meet our contractors at the drop-in session next week (19 June).”
